Yep, I've finally seen mounted dinosaur skeletons in person after waiting for only...oh, my whole life or so! There was this beautiful Tyrannosaurus and a Stegosaurus. Ooh, and a whole bunch of ceratopsian skulls too! No more pictures though, because I ran out of room on the memory card. Doh! Also, these two pictures of Sexy Rexy and his shadow were the best of the ones I did take. Hopefully they'll turn out better next time.
Isn't it pretty? This is the hoop I received in the Wild Olive Stitch Swap, stitched by the lovely Tommie of Ilene Books. Apparently it was the first time she picked up a needle since she was 12! I love the birds (of course!), all the bright colours, and the beads. I'm really liking the look of beads on embroidery lately. Then again, I tend to like everything about embroidery!
Tommie also gave me a handmade note book. I love notebooks almost as much as I love birds. I guess I even sort of collect them because I keep buying them faster than I could possibly use them. There are four on my desk right now actually; two in my purse, one on my bedside table, and one by my favorite chair in the living room. And yes, I use every single one of them!
Henry Rollins is awesome! If you haven't watched any of his spoken word you're missing out on some hilarious ranting. (There are clips on YouTube of course!) We saw him live a couple years ago and I don't think I've laughed so much at anything since. We picked up this (signed!) print at that show but only got a frame for it in January. I had actually forgotten all about it until I was putting away the Christmas decorations and discovered it in the back of a closet. As for the dinosaurs, I made them for Valentine's Day last year. When February 14th rolled around again this year, up on Henry they went! They looked liked they belonged there so I decided to promote them from holiday decorations to everyday awesomeness. It's probably the most coordinated thing in my apartment.
Only two more weeks until the dinosaur exhibit opens at the Royal BC Museum!
One of the lovely bloggers I follow, Jessica from Miniature Rhino, is doing a great project this month. She's writing one piece of correspondence every day, and, of course, blogging about it! She also plans to post lots of snail mail photos and tidbits and has invited people to play along with her! She decided to do this challenge because she tends to fall behind on her snail mail correspondence (just like me), seems to be always playing catch up (just like me), and feels bad about it (just like me).
Do you see where I'm going with this?
Le sigh. Just what I needed, another project! This is a good one though, and it does fit in with my New Years resolution to catch up on...well, everything. As we all know, I'm a notorious procrastinator. I always have the best of intentions but tend to lose steam when it comes to the actual follow through.
So, my snail mail goals for this month are to:
write one piece of mail a day (letters, postcards, note cards, etc.)
take photos of all this snail mail goodness
blog about it once a week...or so
Why don't you guys considering playing along as well? I think it'll be lots of fun! We could even write each other! And hey, whether you decide to play along or not, feel free to send me an email with your address if you'd like a little bit of snail mail from yours truly. (I apologize in advance for my sloppy handwriting!)
